Fun Fact: I swabbed Stephen Colbert’s cheek to collect his DNA
A few years ago, when I was working as Colbert’s assistant, he had his DNA tested for part of the National Geographic’s DNA project. It’s a true story that I swabbed his cheek to get the sample. I was also wearing an Optimus Prime mask while doing that. We had alot of laughs on that set.
As part of its recent upfront strategy, National Geographic Channel took DNA samples from more than 600 advertising professionals working at top agencies in the US including Starcom, MediaEdge, Zenith and OMD. The promotion was also tied to the network’s upcoming special, The Human Family Tree debuting this Sunday at 9p, where 200 random neighbors living in Queens, NY had their DNA tested through the Genographic Project, a five-year research study examining the ancient migration routes of all humanity. Among the results from the advertising pros, we learn 9% of the women shared an ancestor with Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert while 40% of the men shared an ancestor with U2’s Bono.
